The cottage is located in Mosnac-Saint-Simeux on a navigable stretch of the river Charente set between Cognac and Angouleme in the Charente department. It sits in the ‘Petite Champagne’ region – a 66,000 hectare region of unspoilt countryside with an abundance of vineyards and rolling hills and which is the second most important cognac ‘cru’ (region).

It is a 12 minute walk or a 4 minute bicycle ride (or even a short swim along the river!) to the nearest bar & restaurant and the second local restaurant can be reached with a further 8 minute walk along the riverbank.  Both establishments boast beautiful river views and extensive outside terraces.

The closest market town is Chateauneuf-sur-Charente 3 miles (5km) away which can be reached by road or by boat or on foot/bicycle along the riverbank pathway.

There are two sizeable supermarkets in Chateauneuf as well as several bakeries, pharmacies, cafes, restaurants and various other outlets including a post office. It has a train station that connects to Angouleme in 15 minutes where the TGV gets you to Paris in 1h50m and Bordeaux in 35 minutes.

The river is ideal for swimming, fishing and boating.  Canoes, kayaks and boats can all be hired locally.   

There is also an outdoor swimming pool and a river beach in Chateauneuf.
